Sugar and the chemicals and dyes found in traditional baked goods and candy play a significant role in behavior, vitality, energy, focus and the ability to think clearly.

Our culture makes it so easy to reach for sugar when you are stressed, tired and wanting a “treat” after a long day as a busy parent. For kids, sugar is everywhere, as snacks at school, given as a “treat” rewards and even found in abundance in “health foods.”

After eating sugar, I felt foggy and, lethargic. Having a treat was no longer fun when it adversely affected my mood and I needed time to return to normal. Consequently, I became passionate about finding ways to have sweetness in my life without the ill effects of eating traditional sugars.

The average American eats 152 lbs of sugar each year! We expect sugar in baked goods, sweets and soda (1 teaspoon per ounce!), but not in other foods like lunchmeat, low-fat foods or packaged and prepared foods. Because of our expectations, it is less obvious when we are eating sugar and more difficult to limit it. Unfortunately, eating large amounts of sugar or artificial sweeteners suppresses the appetite for nourishing foods and is correlated to numerous health conditions including this small sampling: Acid reflux or GERD, Cancer, Childhood obesity, Depression, GI disorders, Headaches/Migraines, Heart infections, High Blood Pressure, Infertility, Obesity, Memory loss, Mental confusion and more.
