It seems the topic of summer as a BUSY mama continues….

Here are just a few things I’ve learned from many moms lately….

“Where are the lazy days of summer…”
“I thought we would have more down time and it actually is the opposite: it feels busier!”
“I gotta get a handle on this summer thing.”

Sound familiar to you? I get it. Been there and so have many others.

Though not alone (which remains comforting to most), it is at this time that a different path is offered.

Choice point: You can continue to be on “the busy train,” that you stay on and know where it takes you (e.g. often to the same resulting frustration and depletion).

Or…hear that you are saying a familiar dialogue with other moms and family YET recognize that something else is needed from you for your struggling child.

The key may be in that very realization. Something else is needed and your child, and this season, is encouraging that change.

Here are a few of the questions I recently suggested to a client mom, Rebecca (name changed), sharing similar struggles with her family.

When getting frustrated with the “running around,” what do you complain about? That is often pointing towards deeper understanding about your true needs.

What needs to change?  What do YOU need as a parent in order to feel ready, willing and able to parent your struggling child well? This may make all the difference.

This can also be what needs to be added to your family life to create a more peaceful parenting environment for you as this “train” continues to speed up this summer.

As I’ve mentioned in previous newsletters, I’ve worked with families in February to plan their summer rhythm.  Read this previous newsletter to learn more.

It’s that common and that important, especially for parents of struggling children.

If you notice that this is a repeating pattern, it may be time to handle it differently, step out of the “usual response of chalking it up to another summer with kids” and instead, seize this time to dive into a new pool.

To have a balanced routine as a parent with struggling kids, it is imperative to determine what YOU need as I’ve done with Rebecca and other mamas.

Take a few minutes today and make your list.

If you want help with parenting and challenging children and to create a new kind of summer, let’s talk.
